I completely get what you mean and it was something I was grappling with. To be honest, I’m not sure about the absolute best practice when it comes to this, I think it would be something that has to come down to real user testing.

My thought process is if that about 50% of the outline is clear enough to pass AA then a person with weaker vision should be able to see it, and then focus on it which makes the entire outline more defined, however it would be interesting to see it tested in real life.

Maybe it will be a follow up post! 🙂
